Hey guys! I’m back with another pattern mixing thrifted outfit! My last post featured a bold move in the art of fashion pattern mixing. I know, I know, I started out with a bang!!! But, in this post, I figured would show you some more subtle ways that you can achieve some pattern mixing, opening your closet to a world of new possible outfits. I like to be a little more daring (when it comes to fashion), but for some people, baby steps are needed.
This is one of my absolutely, favorite thrifted shirts. I wear it often and decided to use it in my pattern mixing series. It’s a BCBGeneration shirt via Buffalo Exchange. The shorts, I recently picked up on the San Diego Thrifting Bus Tour from Goodwill. You may have seen me highlight this score in my thrift haul.
Here, I am following two basic rules for mixing patterns – staying in the same color family and subtlety. I am playing off the blue and white in this outfit. The shorts have the dominant blue with white prints. The shirt has the dominant white, with the blue print. With respects to the subtlety rule. The shirt is definitely not a crazy printed shirt with the white space more dominant. The shorts have the dominant.
Thus, having the shirt with the heavily printed shorts, allows for pattern mixing in a very subtle manner. I paired this outfit with some flats (that type of day), and some simple accessories.

Additionally, what better way to try out new fashion trends without breaking the bank — your nearest thrift and consignment shops have A LOT of choices for you!

Thank you girlie! Isn’t that shirt just beautiful and sexy all at the same time? You just never know what you will find in a thrift/consignment shop. It is definitely a casual outfit without much fuss.

Ayana you look great. Both pieces are really pretty. I agree with you and your rules. Keeping both prints in the same family of colors (I say 2 colors for each print – like you did – works best). And also one print larger than the other one. =)
