In today’s outfit post, absolutely nothing comes from a thrift or consignment shop. However, please believe that this outfit still cost under $50 from top to bottom. Let’s talk CLEARANCE RACKS! This blog is about all fabulous things, THRIFTY. To me, this means getting fabulous items at a bargain. Yes, of course you will find bargain prices at thrift and consignment shops, but also understand that a clearance rack should not be be forgotten. In fact some clearance racks are great thrift store alternatives for me.
Heading to the movies, I wanted a simple but still stylish look. Although, still quite summer, the movies are always freezing, so sleeves are my best friend when I enter the freezer theater. I bought this semi sheer chiffon shirt from Charming Charlies on their end of season clearance rack last year, for $9.99. It was marked down from $29.99. I did actually see it earlier that season and definitely noted that I was not going to pay $29.99 for it — yup, it’s that real for me folks. When I returned, I was very happy to see that they had come to their senses and marked it down. Scooped it up immediately.
The blue and white printed pants came off the clearance rack at Macy’s. Side note here. A lot of people wonder how I have the patience to wade through clothing at a thrift store. They would rather head to a retail store and find what they want. However, I have to say that if you venture into the clearance rack sections in a store, and find things that you like, and LOVE the markdowns, then you can easily go thrifting. The Macy’s that I found this little beauty had a large section devoted for clearance. But, it was messy, unorganized and certainly packed with a lot of things. I have definitely been in thrift stores that were more organized than that area. However, I know that I am not there to buy realty in the section, I am there to unearth some great finds — which I did. During the summer season, these pants were marked at $59.00. But, it ended up in the clearance section and I walked away with it for $11.45. They are comfy, different and CUTE!
If you know me or if you have been following this blog, you know that I am all about COLORS. I first opted to complete the outfit with some white sandals, but at the last minute really wanted a pop of color. These Jessica Simpson’s pumps came from a Ross Dress For Less clearance rack. I purchased them for $9.99, marked down from $59.99. Yes, that is a steal! There you have it. I am a walking clearance rack – but looking much better than the way they normally keep the section.

Haha, I am a walking clearance rack as well. If it ain’t in your clearance section, I want no part of it. Most of the times anyway. I very very rarely buy things at full price.
For me a big part of what makes thrifting fun is precisely the fact that you can find some great things inside heaps of well trash. On my latest trip to the flea market I found a Jil Sander blouse for 3€ at the bottom of a cardbox I had to dig through.

You are absolutely right. Digging through and finding treasures is half the glory. I honestly hope that my blog allows people to see that you can still look fantastic without going broke. There is nothing to be ashamed about when you save money!

I just got back from shopping at the grocery store here in Canada where they have an amazing clothing line called joe fresh (dead serious, I love their stuff) and I got $92 worth of tees and pj’s for two bucks and some change! Mind you, that was me using up my store credit points, but I was still pretty happy about it!

Thank you! Yes, patience is definitely a key factor in finding deals. You have to be able to give yourself to search around, or even to wait until prices drop. However, it is so worth it don’t you think.

Thank you!! Yes, shoes can sometimes be tough, but, it’s all about knowing where to go and when. Macys tends to ALWAYS have something on their clearance rack that I can walk away with it if I truly loved it.

I love the clearance racks at JCPenney’s as that is where I get most of my pencil skirts. I still don’t understand how some people can pay extraordinary outrageous retail prices? The pop of color with the Jessica Simpson pumps are perfect and I love shopping shoes and bags at Ross as well.
