This is the second time around that Keren Charles of Two Stylish Kays and I are styling plaid. You may have remembered our first plaid styling here. Don’t forget to check out Keren’s blog for the details of her plaid dress with pretty hues of grey.
As I have said before, plaid isn’t the easiest pattern for me to style. But, while visiting Las Vegas a few months back, I found this beautiful plaid blazer in a Savers thrift store. The pattern immediately stood out and I took a chance. Now, while the blazer fit perfectly, the sleeves appeared to have been altered and were really short on me. However, this Ralph Lauren blazer cost $7.99 and I was determined to add more plaids to my closet and work with it. In this case, I simply rolled the sleeves and without me telling you, there is really no reason for you to believe that the sleeves are too short.
In styling this outfit, I went with a little more edgy look. Definitely not an everyday look, but hey, if you are going to step up your fashion game, you need to sometimes work outside your comfort zone. I found this black and cream sheer bodysuit during the same Las Vegas trip at Buffalo Exchange for only $6.00, and decided to style it with my plaid blazer.
I styled the blazer and sheer top with a high waist skater skirt. I purchased this skirt from Asos several months ago for a ridiculous clearance price. The skirt originally sold for $59.00. You already know that this Diva was not paying that price for it. But, stalking a site has its benefits. The skirt finally went on sale for $9.99 and I happily purchased it at that thrifty price.
Of course, I am getting my full wear out of my over the knee boots as you see here, and here. I swear, I will make those boots go with every outfit. I added some fishnet stockings in this case, and loved how this outfit turned out. I am slowly warming up to plaids. The trick is definitely pulling it out and giving it a try in styling rather than packing it in the back of the closet.
Have you tried styling something that you normally don’t wear?
