Off-the-shoulder tops and dresses were everywhere this summer, so don’t be surprised that the trend has made its way into the fall – and has evolved (somewhat) into the one shoulder trend. I have always been a fan of the off the shoulder pieces, and personally find the one shoulder trend to be an even more sophisticated, sexy and a chic fashion piece to have in my closet.
Everywhere you turn, stylish women are baring their shoulders with gorgeous off-the-shoulder pieces. But, I know some of you are are pretty much tired of seeing the off the shoulder trend everywhere they turn. I present to you, the one-shoulder dress as an awesome alternate.
One-shoulder dresses are quite easily worn in the day, and likewise, are perfect for night activities. Truth be told, a one-shoulder dress is a sophisticated and dramatic look that can stand out no matter what the occasion. However, I have to warn you that they are quite tricky to wear. Before thinking about wearing them this season there are a few things you need to know about accessorizing and styling them in order to pull them off the right way.
Styling a one-shoulder dress begins with selecting the right one-shoulder dress. In order to find the best dress for any individual woman, it is important to know your body strengths. A woman that is particularly proud of her shoulders will do well to choose a style that is completely off the shoulder. Someone who is fond of her back can easily find a one-shoulder dress that dips low in the back for the best display of her strongest asset.
Once you have found that perfect one-shoulder dress, think simple when it comes to accessories. There is absolutely no reason to wear a necklace, as I have yet to see one that would not interfere with the beautiful and unique neckline of the one-shoulder dress. Wearing a necklace may interfere with the balance of the dress and can destroy the look. But, I know someone out there reading this post, will definitely say that they know they can pull off a necklace with a one-shoulder dress. If you must wear a necklace, then try a choker which sits closer to neck. I would accessorize with statement earrings, rings and bracelets. However, don’t exaggerate. One elegant bracelet will be more than enough.
Finally, I would say that you must wear the right bra when styling a one-shoulder dress. Due to the slanted neckline, it is very important to make sure that your bra is not peeking out of the dress. In many cases, wearing a strapless bra is the perfect solution for a one-shoulder, off shoulder, or backless dress. However, a convertible bra is also another sensible solution. Convertible bras often have detachable straps, allowing them to be arranged in a number of different ways, including a single strap for a one-shoulder dress.
I found this amazing one-shoulder dress at Asos on sale for only $34. Asos is one of my absolute favorite online stores, as you can see here, and here. It’s the perfect colors for the fall season, but can easily be worn anytime of the year in my opinion. If you haven’t given Asos a try, I am telling you that you are missing out on some fabulous pieces to add to your wardrobe.
I paired this dress with these green Steve Madden bow heels. I actually thrifted these heels from My Sister’s Closet in San Diego for $13. Yes, you read that right. I love the color of these heels, and with this dress, match made in heaven. I accessorized with this beautiful bracelet that I was gifted from hubby, and some dangling earrings. Simple, but yet so elegant and chic.
Have you worn a one-shoulder dress lately?
You look beautiful and that style of dress suites you. I have tried the one shoulder dress style once, it was going to be for a wedding that I was in. Thankfully after all of the ladies tried on their dresses, the bride didn’t like that style on many of us, so she changed them.
girlfriend, this dress is STUNNING on you!! Love love love the bright colors! xo
Wow you are stunning in that dress!! I love off the shoulder, and one shoulder on some is great!

I would love to pull off an off the shoulder dress. My biggest problem is finding a bra that won’t show and still give me support.
This is such a gorgeous dress…You look lovely! I’ve never worn a one should dress and am not sure I could pull it off like this. Love the green pumps too.
It looks beautiful on you! Love the colors and the flowers! I’d love to wear a dress like that for summer and fall!
Love this dress! I love pink and floral print!! I would love this for my cruise next June! I think one shoulder outfits are cute and sexy!
This dress is beautiful, and it suits you well. I love this unique design. But it also might have something to do with the fact that I have a thing for floral print. Blessings!
That is a great dress. I love the shoes! They were an amazing find! I have heard that there are better things in resale shops in towns where I don’t live. I will have to go there.
I love the location you shot this look!! It’s perfect and I love the green shoes perfect combo!
I love this dress on you, it is stunning! I have always loved the one shoulder dresses, but never really worn them myself due to being rather busty.
That dress is absolutely stunning on you and styled beautifully! One-shoulder dresses aren’t really my thing, but you certainly pull it off well. 🙂
That dress is stunning! I hope you had a wonderful place to wear it!
This dress looks gorgeous on you! I completely agree that having the right bra is key to pulling off this look. 🙂

I love this look! I also love the way you took a fine color detail and brought it to life by matching your shoes and accessories to it! Brilliant!
I can’t remember the last time I wore a one shoulder dress. It might have been at my prom, but I remember loving it and chasing the dress simply because of the one shoulder. It is a great look and I really should try it again.
I love the dress, I love how good you wear it , I love the floral print , the shoes you wear … I love the complete look.

You look absolutely amazing in that dress. I am short and round, so I don’t think that style would work for me. But it looks amazing on you.
This dress and the COLOR look absolutely amazing on you!!!
I love the neckline of that dress and it is a pretty print. I am glad you told me that no necklace is needed in this style because I wouldn’t be sure what to wear. Thanks.

I’ve been so unsure of this trend because it reminds me of the dresses girls would wear to high school dances haha! But you make it look so elegant!
Such a petty dress! I love the one shoulder detail and the florals! You look amazing!
